Default Windows Update problems

Alright, I did a rebuild of my system today, as the old build was getting a whole lot of junk on it and the registry was whacked. Anyway, now I can't get any updates installed. Whenever I go to windows update, it will just sit there forever trying to find updates. Luckily, Microsoft allows you to download SP2 from their download center, but the other updates are what really annoy me. Hopefully everything will be fine after I install SP2. For those who care to know, I have a perfectly legal (albeit OEM) copy of XP, so it is not disliking my license. I've been using this copy for nearly two years, anyway.

It ends on October 10th, 2006.

And, I wouldn't reccomend using the Windows Update site. Messes up your PC and opens lots of ports that hackers tend to look for. Much safer to use the Windows Update program (set it to automatic) ... it's much safer as it uses a Localhost Loopback

Windows Update would work when I had SP1 installed I had to update to SP2 before Windows Update would work.

Yeah, it's fine now that SP2 is up and running.

SP2 is very bad and I will never upgrade to SP2. SP1 all the way!

...but despite my positive attitude, SP2 will win eventually

Had bad luck with SP2, every time I've installed it, it's messed my PC up...lol
