The Art of Not Being Seen
![]() |
Just built another box, just to have. After installing Win XP, all drivers and activating it, the computer connected to Windows Update. It updated once and had to be restarted. When it started updatig again, Genuine advantage came up and it was installed. When it was time to download and install SP2, Windows update just stays there, looking for the necessary updates... but nothing happens.
Although I ordered the SP2 CD, I do not feel like waiting for it. What could be wrong? Is it my computer or does it have to do with the update web site? Stats on this machine; same my Media PC.

Yes but Automatic updates as nice as it is wont pull off the 3rd party updates for hardware as such. If you still have issues take a look here :http://support.microsoft.com/kb/194174/en-us

You could always download SP2 from another "mirror" site. Shouldnt take too long if you have a quick connection (240MB if I remember rightly).

Also another fix for you is to go into your Windows folder and then find a file named ''Downloaded program files'' Here is where your windows update Activx is stored i beleive its gone bad . Find an Activex control called : ''MUWEB CONTROL CLASS'' Right click on it and delete it. The close all the windows and open up windows update again. It should now ask you to install the ActiveX again.
