Default Screwed up MBR (need help fast!)
Ok..so basically my computer won't boot. It gets to windows then goes black. Common symptoms of a messed up master boot record/partition table. So it works in safe mode...and when I use AVG to scan for viruses..it says "unable to read" MBR. I tried using my XP disc to fix it...but it didn't correct my problem.

Any other hlep, I can try?

In the XP disk Recovery Console, run "fixmbr".

I hate it when that happens....I used to use SYSINTERNALS to repair garbage like that. Thats not an option anymore LOL!

You COULD have a very nasy stealth virus...there is a LINUX ISO distro that you can boot from which will scan your windows. Let me look that up....

Go into the Recovery console in the Windows XP setup mate and type the command ''FIXMBR'' this will no create a new Master boot record. However there is a danger that it may make the OS completely useless. As you cant get into it anyway you have nothing to lose. But i would use a live Linix CD and get any folders you need.
