Im trying to install Windows onto a friend's brand new rig but when I boot off the install disc it goes through the beginning portion where you see it loading all sorts of drivers and then right when it's about to go to the next portion of the install I get a blue screen of death telling me to check if I have a virus and to check if my hard drives are configured properly.... the system has 2 IDE drives and a SATA drive in it and we tried it with only 1 hard drive (tried with each of the 3) and we always get the same problem. So what can I do to fix this? The motherboard is an Asus P5LD2 if that's any help.

Maybe you need to load special SATA drivers? When windows boots to the install it prompts you to install additional drivers.

Right but even if that was the case, it prompts you to install those drivers after the point at which it crashes. Which makes me wonder why it's blaming the hard drives since the install doesn't even use them at this stage (I've been through that part with no hard drives at all on my machine and it worked fine) so this is really making me feel like a fish out of water lol, I literally have no where to go in terms of past experiences like this and Im totally lost

At the BSOD it should give you a code.

When I got a BSOD during a Windows installation it turned out to be a faulty stick of RAM.

See the main problem is that when you fresh install without a disc slipstreamed with current updates...you just get Old Windows installing...so you have to update everything 1st then install the drivers because THAT WINDOWS isn't going to know what it is that you are trying to do I Slipstream a copy of my disc like every 2-3 months...got a stack of them now incase I need to go back to a previous "GREAT" install.... Just install the driver later like a BIOS FLASH

Here is my take on it.
1. Reset the BIOS to defaults. 2. Make sure the HDD'S are plugged into the motherboard correctly and hae there priorities set right ( SLAVE/MASTER ) 3.If not try a different IDE/SATA cables 4. Reset CMOS. When installing for safety sake dont use a slipstreamed disk just use an prdinary OS disk as Wrongly slipstreaed disks can cause BSOD'S. A bios update may also help the situation. If thing are still bad i would MEMTEST that ram.

The disc is not slipstreamed and is the OS reinstallation disc that comes with Dell machines. I will bring his PC over here and test that RAM in my rig, any other suggestions?

Make sure just the basics are used. 1 stick of ram, 1 hdd, 1 video card etc. In my experience Windows likes to install/format with 1 stick of ram versus 2. I agree with the above posts. Clear CMOS, check to see if drive is set to slave/master and it is connected properly. Make sure the molex connector isnt loose as well. I doubt a bios flash would do much, but nonetheless rule it out. Best of luck.
