Default do I need windows64?

I just upgraded from the computer in my specs to an opteron 165/dfi lanparty nf4 rig...

I'm using my old hard drives which are being recognized under the bios but are not allowing me to boot in windows xp... do you generally need to reload the OS on the HDD when building a new computer? and is it not loading into windows becuase of this fact? and is windows xp 64 required for my new rig since its a athlon 64 processor, or does regular windows xp work?

No windows 64 is not required nor recommended. Has some driver problems here and there, might be worth a shot for a performance gain.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure you should reinstall xp on the hard drive as you are using different hardware in this new build, that is why xp is not booting. And no, windows xp 64-bit is not required, normal 32-bit xp is fine. Also, not alot of drivers are fully compatible with XP 64 last time I checked, so I'd say stick with "normal" Windows XP.

It's better to re-install Windows, given the new hardware (esp. the motherboard). Your current Windows installation does not have the correct drivers loaded to be able to boot.

Don't need Win64 though.

When I try to boot into windows, it brings me to that safe mode prompt, but I can't select any of the options and I have to just wait until it counts down and starts up window normally. When it finally hits that, it just restarts

Does this mean I have to do a fresh install of windows xp? And is 64 not required or just not suggested? Becuase a copy can be easily had without much trouble but I won't bother if it stinks

Yes with a Major hardware change a fresh Install of XP is generally the best way. You can attempt a repair However that can also lead to a dead end. I would just got ahead with a fresh install.

And no Windows 32bit will work fine with a 64bit CPU at current.

You dont HAVE to run WIN64 NO

Again, you'll need to re-install windows because of the new hardware. The changes in your system are too drastic (you replaced the motherboard) for windows to be able to boot.

and no, you do NOT need Win64, nor is it recommended! Driver support for Win64 is not that good. Don't get it.

I know that 64bit isnt used by all bit you would think that driver support would be alot better.

The major guys do have drivers for Win64. It's just not a mainstream OS, so I can easily imagine smaller companies not investing in these drives.... Could be a bit off though, but I've heard it's not the best solution for enthusiasts.

Well people in alot of cases if not all get a worse benchmark/FPS with Win64 so its not great for the big gamers.
