Default broken xp disk

My Xp disk is so scratch that it won't load. I have annother xp disk that works. Can I use my working disk with the other xp key?

well if one is OEM and the other is store bought then it won't i made that mistake once.

and also i've heard that if one is SP2 and you have a CD key for SP1 then it won't work

the service pack doent make any difference but the version has to be the same ie home or pro oem or retail

Have you tried polishing the scratches out? You can use a DVD/CD Doctor with a grinding wheel to resurface the disk...If you don't have one of those, you can use toothpaste and a soft 100% cloth rag or shammy and rub the scratches out. Takes a long time with the toothpaste method, but if it works it's worth it. Just remember, don't polish it with circular motions. Just work from the inside straight out to the edge and back again. If the paint side of the disk has the scratch...well you are kinda screwed there.
