Office 2003 symbols

Hey guys, I installed Office 2003, it works great, the only problem is that, the accents such has (é,è,ç,ä...) aren't working when pressing Alt + 130 (for é for example) It is very annoying because I have to go to the symbol window all the time to enter them, anyway I can make those shortcuts work? Cause I tried to give them shorcuts keys but they don't allow Alt + 3 numbers, any way out?
Help gladly appreciated.
