ok i need to install Xp on a machine but the disk is damaged and it only makes it 76% through copying files then it says windows cannot read the file. i have tried many many CD fixers and they don't work, i've tried putting in a different CD which has SP2 when it says it can't read it and it copies the file then says that it can't read another file and i put the first CD back in and it copies the rest of them but as soon as i boot up not booting from the CD i get a BSOD. i can't use the SP2 cd for the whole install because it isn't an OEM CD and i have an OEM CD key. i wan't to be able to update windows so fakeing it is not an option. please help lol.

i had this with an broken cd/dvd-rom.....try another,....is your system overclocked?.....then it could also be an memory issue.......too tight timings...run a divider on your memory or loosen your timings...unless your disk is psychically damaged....(very deep scratches, or the top layer scratched)

i have tried multiple CD/DVD drives with no change i can try to unoverclock it to see if i can use the SP2 cd and not get the BSOD. the CD is kind of scratched but it doesn't seem to be that bad. i have used the same CD on another system that wasn't OCed but it was OEM so i could use it's own CD key and it had the same problem.

Sounds like ur HDD wont accept the Temp files.
I would fully format its partitions using F-disk here then try again : http://www.fdisk.com/fdisk/
