Hey guys, I have a couple questions about vista, please answer. PLEASE.
__________________1. What does it mean to use 32 and 64bit? What makes the 64 so much better? Will vista utilize this or should we get 32? 2.Kinda dumb but-My dads DX9 cards will run it, right? 3.I've read about how microsoft is making things harder for computer enthusiasts, So we have to buy a copy of vista for EVERY computer?

Some processors don't support 64bit architecture. However, some programs may not run under 64bit architecture. So I'd recommend going with 32bit. But 64bit is better than 32 bit (someone else can explain that.)

6800 will probably be fine... maybe a bit slow.

1) A 64-bit OS improves certain application performance because 64-bit architecture allows larger operations to be done. This applies to CAD, video editting, science apps, ect. The problem with 64-bit OS is that most companies are still stuck in 32-bit OS world and do not provide good driver support for 64-bit. There will be two versions of Vista (just like XP)... 32-bit and 64-bit. You have to purchase one or the other. Companies do not plan to provide much more 64-bit support in the coming year 2) Yes, DX9 cards will run Vista. Almost every card in the last 4 years will and yours is powerful enough for Aero interface. However, the current card will not support DX10. Good news is that most games will support both DX10 and 9 for the next year or two. 3) You maybe confused. The issue was that MS was limiting each Vista install to a certain number and would invalidate the OS if too many changes were made to a PC. They have clarified that and licensing will be near identical to XP. After massive hardware changes, you may just need to re-validate your copy.

Will vista utilize this or should we get 32? 64 bit uses hexdecimal math, which then causes it to run faster than xp, but drivers are an issue, i would buy the 32 bit and get your free 64 bit disc for alter 2.Kinda dumb but-My dads DX9 cards will run it, right? yes 3.I've read about how microsoft is making things harder for computer enthusiasts, So we have to buy a copy of vista for EVERY computer? yes you must, due to the changes in the activation process

If I'm not mistaken you purchase the 32-bit version and if you want the 64-bit you just have to go to a website and they will send you one. Either that or it is in the box already. I'm pretty sure there is only one version for retail.

Are you comparing xp 32bit to vista64bit? 'Cause that's a little unfair.
__________________I've tested the feb vista beta on my old 2.93 intel celeron. Xp runs smoothly. Vista was terribly slow. Could've been worse (you should've seen it running on my 1.7ghz intel celeron with my fx5200). Back then, however, it was an unstable beta. First impressions of vista were terrible. To delete a shortcut, you had to go past 4 or so confirmations. Logically, vista should run slower than xp, just like xp runs slower than win2000. Vista has more bloat.

Are you sure? I haven't heard this but it would be great... Newegg has the 32-bit and 64-bit listed seperately though.
