I know what most people think should be done but as I have read vista upgrade is completely different than the old versions of windows. It totally cleans out everything and gives you a clean install. Does anyone care to comment on this. It takes a lot longer to do the upgrade but in the long run it would save me at least 12 or more hours of reinstalling all the software on my computer.

If you can sacrifice a fresh install you would be better off. If not you can take your chances and see what works and what doesnt after the upgrade.

Have you tried an ugrade with vista yet? If it's not going to work with an upgrade why would it work with a clean install. If something doesn't work, it doesn't work.

I've done both and upgrade as well as a clean install.
The clean install took a bit longer, but it seems to be more stable overall. Just make sure when doing a fresh install to make a seperate partition for Vista so you don't install over XP.

Also done both some of my older software stopped working but 90% of it still worked.
Both seemed pretty stable to me (this was using Ultimate Edition) Oh and i also went str8 back to XP after about 2 hours because Vista seems to use way more resources and apart from a nice looking GUI sucks balls.

In case you have a problem, don't like Vista, hardware isn't supported, frame rates are terrible while gaming...
Any of the above.

Not a big gamer here. More video editing and things like that? Do you have vista?
