XP oem version
I built my computer recently and used a disc my buddy had left to install XP, not a genuine key I knew at the time, anyway. Someone in my area is selling a XP pro OEM version, can i just buy this and apply the key, or would I have to do a fresh install? thank sin advance.

You can just apply the key. If it asks for reactivation, just call them the number and you'll get a machine that guides you though. It's really easy and takes less than 5 min.

tried doing it, they said it wasn't vaild? I'm looking right at the sticker? Is it possible someone had used the key before and then the guy sold it?

Could be or it's a corpriate version and you have an illegal key.

says on the sticker windows XP professional OEM software. The package hasn't even been opened.
