Just recently my System Idle has been using 99% CPU when ever it can, and is causing some ugly lag. Does anyone know how to fix this? Or why it's doing this? I'm running windows XP.

You on about the system idle process because that in fact takes the empty clock cycles up on the CPU and does not affect performance or cause lag.

Hi.

Sounds like you have some house-cleaning to do. You may very well be infected with Malware or Spyware.

Check the Processes tab on the Task Manager and try to isolate suspicious processes.

You can also use "HiJack This!" to see what is going on with your system.

If you do not know what these are, post back and assistance will be on the way.

Kay, thanks I'll try it. I'm usually perdy good at removing malaware/viruses Exc. But I'll take a look see.

Don't worry about system idle unless its always less then 95%, worry about the CPU usage.

I've had that happen once, I just rebooted into safe mode, scanned everyhting, virus's, spyware, ect, cleared what need clearing and voila!

Also, do you have Steam running?

I'm confused.. Is he refering to CPU usage being 99% or 99% of his system is idle

give us a screenie of the processes tab of the task manager

Also check that the printer service called ''Spools'' isnt using up alot of resources.
