T-Bird 900Mhz
512MB Corsair Value RAM 10GB HDD (120GB coming) Windows Server 2003 Mkay. I want it to be a file server/print server/"stream" server/mail server*. And I want to be able to control the computer through Remote Desktop. (If thats possible with XP -> 2003 Server...) I understand how to do all of them except the mail server. How do you do that? It doesn't have internet yet (no LAN card) but I want to play with it now and "get it over with" so when it comes in I know what to do. TBH - I don't know what a mail server is. From what I understand though, it uses Outlook (?) to get your email off the web and saves to your HDD and you can view it from any computer on the network - if thats right, can I block my sister or someone from reading mine? To do that I would just use a password and nothing else, correct?

Honestly they are pretty easy to setup, however... I would stay away from it. Your ISP will catch you quick and chances are they will disable your account until it is shut down. However.. There are a few different free mail servers. Or you can get MS exchange server.
Here are a few different ones. http://www.argosoft.com/mailserver/ http://www.merakmailserver.com/ http://www.magicwinmail.net/ http://www.pmail.com/ You will also need a domain name capable of MX records, so chances are you might need a dynamic one such as dyndns but you may need to pay extra for the capability of MX records.

I mean, Windows 2003 Server has one built in (A "wizard"), but it won't let me run it until it has an installed NIC that it can use.
Is it just fill your email adresses/passwords and everything is automated or what? ![]()

Sorta, but you need a domain. They are domain based and you will need to input values for the domain. such as yoursite.com.
Edit: Sorry nvm my aim is being stupid what about yahoo id?
