Hey all,
__________________I went installing Vista Business on my friends pc, but somehow during the installation it screwed up and rebooted, afterwards telling me that the installation was interrupted and I had to try again. Basically, the same thing happend 2 more times, so I figured Vista doesn't like his pc (AMD64 2800+, 1Gb, Radeon 9800Pro) so I formatted the drive I put vista on and attempted to boot into Windows XP again. Unfortunately it tells me that some windows vista files couldnt be located (duh ) and I can't boot at all. Then I got my XP home disc, and tried to repair, but when we enter the password required to log in it says it's not valid :S Any idea how I can fix it? I've now booted with a special boot disc, so I have acces to most standard programs. Thanks a LOT!

i think your best bet in this situation would be to to slave the hard drive and get any valuable data of the disc and reformat windows. once you do a reapair install with a different version of windows it installs a password for some weird reason i went through this and it is near impossible to fix.

The reason you may of had a problem doing a clean install is that If you are installing an Upgrade edition then you already have to have a Base OS present before installing.

there is a way to go into the repair console and look trough lines and lines of your registry and somewhere in there you will find your password let me look around and find you a couple read throughs on how to do this.

Furthermore, I can acces everything with this boot CD. It's just like windows XP pro, but then from a cd. In fact, I'm typing this on the pc in question, so if there's anything I can do from here please let me know, i'd rather not reformat it.

Let me get things straight in my head. Did you actually get Vista installed on a different partition succesfully ?

wait, if I let Setup repair it (not the command prompt), won't it fix the boot problem automatically?

As I said, I'm now on a windows XP boot disc, wich is the same as XP pro, but then run directly off a cd. ( so I have the windows GUI and some pre installated programs)
