Yeah, ok everything I search says its a hardware failure. I tried stock settings, I tried different memory. I cannot even do a HDD to HDD file copy without crashing in the middle of it. This all started happening during my trial and error process in my overclock. At first it was caused by zonealarm, so it seemed. Every time I booted into windows even with stock settings, ZA would bring up a new IP detected, asking where to place it, but when you select anything it would lock up and the pc would BSOD. So I uninstalled ZA, yet it is still giving me BSOD's.

Please read on for more details...

Copying files, running MSDOS to format a drive, or just browsing the net will give me a random BSOD. Some things however did NOT cause a BSOD, like while playing FFXI last night for 6+ hours(and running winamp in the backround). Which is mostly run on memory, not alot of intensive cpu usage(maybe 30-40%). Prime95 torture was run for 45 hours, and did not BSOD either. Neither did a total run of super Pi tests, Plus an additional 32M. Almost like it is something in windows itself that is crapping out. I do not want to format/reinstall while my important data remains on the HDD. However, how the hell can I backup my data if windows keeps BSOD'ing? Is there a bootable CD DOS program to do this with NTFS drives(no FDD)?

How can it be a hardware failure if it does this even at stock settings, and even different memory? Perhaps it is something overlooked like my power supply? Although I would think if it was power, i would not beable to prime95 torture test for 45 hours, on my current OC, without a BSOD. No BSOD on prime95 torture, no BSOD on winamp+FFXI, none on super pi, but on just about everything else I have tried lately BSOD's at some point. Someone help me please.

No one is going to be able to answer a "My computer is crashing, what should I do?" question. There are just too many possibilities, and throw in overclocking, a DFI MOBO (not for the faint of heart!) and your lack of any description of what you have done and the outcome (other that the various ways you crashed it). You need a systematic approach to solve your problem. Reflash the BIOS, set defaults, use 1 video card, one stick of memory, with everything out of the case. If that doesn't work then memtest.

Thee are hundreds of posts and responses to problems like yours. Just calm down and start attacking the problem

Prime95 for 45 hours, super pi full round of tests, FFXI + winamp for 6 hours. How can it be anything to do with the hardware if all of these hardware intensive programs do not cause BSOD? I am running on the idea of the harddrive being the problem, but I cant do much testing/formating/etc on my sata drive until I find a way to backup my data to my older pata drive. Windows BSOD's on doing a copy/paste, so not sure how to get that out of the way and move on.

Another idea on the harddrive, when FFXI loads, it split second locks up(winamp music freezes for a second). However while playing the game, no problems came up. Even browsing the net, swaping songs on winamp etc while playing didnt cause anything.

Anyone can tell me how I can do a backup of my SATA drive to PATA drive out of windows? Both are NTFS, and I have no floppy drive(broken). I have 1 cd-r disk left to use atm. <_<

ok I am even more convinced its my hard drive. Because While continuing to try and copy my data, I managed to this time, for the most part. However there was a few times I recieved an error saying the file is corrupt or missing. Also when I tried to copy a ROM folder from my FFXI copy, I recieved this error on a specific .dat file, I tried to copy it twice and both times it said this error. This deffinitly sounds like the drive is failing or something to that porportion.

Not to mention that from the first boot up today, until now (5 times i have rebooted or crashed) All times the taskbar is missing. It does not display, only the desktop icons. I think the drive must be failing.

Does anyone have anything to add to my suspition?

So anyways. First off I managed to back up all my data. Second, I got into a pit where windows continuesly went blank screen after the first booting screen. After abit of trial and error I got it back up, It ran chkdisk and deleted my 63.dat from my game O_O, but it still crashed again. Anyways, I am now up without any BSODS so far, with my game running but realy unstable(keeps locking up, and seeing alot of backround white flashes while moving, like lightning).

I got this far by removing the PCI supply cable from my second card, and turning SLI off in my motherboard. I Just now experienced two black outs simultaniosly while my game is running and im typing. Screen goes blank for less then a second and comes back almost like a test. Interesting.

From these factors, and the problems with corrupt files, I have determined its more than likely one or both. A the hard drive, B the power supply. Additionaly I have taken the measures, and hopes that it is one or both of these that is the problem. I have ordered a new 700W OCZ powerextreem PSU and a seagate barracuda SATA 3.0GB/s (16mb cache) 350GB drive to (hopefuly) fix this.

PS wish i had some more responses, getting lonely in this dilema :X
