Well some crazy error messed up my computer. I plugged in a portable hard drive and it told me too reboot. I did, but when I tried to log in it gave me "lsass.exe endpoint format unknown" so I ran a repair install to media center 2005. After the install I go and try to log in and I click my user account to sign in and it wants me to activate windows so I click yes. It then brings me to my desktop, but all it shows is the background image with notheing else, no start button, no programs, no nothing. I tried doing some registry editing and it did nothing. I made a copy of the orignal before messing with the registry and reloaded it. I'm still having the problem of not being able to re-activate it. It is past the original 30 days to activate it, but on the orginal install I activated it the first day. So I'm guessing that since I reinstalled it, it needs to re-activate. If anybody has had this problem or knows how to fix it your knowledge would be much appreciated. Also I would like to do this without deleting all info on the hard drives if at all possible.
Thanks, Ken Oh and I did call Microsoft, they told me to call the activation line, but in order to activate it over the phone you need the program to run, but as mentioned above I get nothing. Update: After the computer sitting for a while in the user log in page it give me this bs message that the local profile is corrupt. This is false because I can log in to the account in safe mode no problem.

I can only say: reinstall after a full format.

Dang, this really sucks!!! Why does windows have to be so picky!!!
Safe Mode doen't do me any good. You can't activate in safe mode. I think I might go pickup Symantec Ghost and then do a full reformat. Gahhhhhhhhhhhh This Blows!!!

Problem with ghosting would be that you'd be moving all files back to your drive hence putting the issue right back in place. So I don't think this would work for ya, I'd say just reinstall windows and all your apps, of course make sure to back up the important stuff, (game save files, docs, pics, etc.)

Ya, do what JeremyFr said. Do a full FILE backup (not system settings), format the drive, and do a clean install. If you have everything backed up, and have all your drivers and apps on CD's or already downloaded somewhere and ready to go, you should be back up and running at full, or close to full capacity 2-3 hours after you pop in the Windows disk.

You can also still browse your HDD if you want, enter safe-mode with DOS prompt then after it loaded press crtl-alt-del and start "new task" and enter explorer.exe. Windows will continue loading then.
Good luck.
