Default ok..please help me for vista!!!

alright..i have a laptop.. that is completely compatible with vista...except for the memory. I have 512 memory...but i have a shared graphics card that takes up 128 megabytes of memory. If i were to try to install vista..would i be able to do it? or would i need to get more memory?

what I'm trying to ask is..

512 - 128 shared memory=512 memory for vista??

thanks.

Vista would work. However may be a little slower due to the lack of memory .

512 - 128 does not equal 512 again lol

512 - 128 = 384

384 mb of ram , imo , will not run vista at an acceptable level. stick with xp

Hi.

According to the stats that I have read, Vista requires 512MB of RAM to install. That's install, not run.

Specific to your question:

"Also, be aware of computers that share memory with the video controller. This covers many notebook computers, but computers that have video controllers integrated on the motherboard typically do this too. The presence of shared video memory does affect the installer. For instance, if you have 512MB of RAM and set the video memory to 192MB by default, Vista won't see the full 512MB available for installation. For desktops with shared memory, adding a descrete graphics card or more RAM are the simplest solutions. Notebook owners might not be so fortunate."

Vista is seriously memory hungry, mine at stock install uses ~400mb of ram on the desktop and i have a gig of ram... dosent leave much head room. Thats why im still gaming on XP (also due to the lack of a DX10 card lol)

Yeah, you won't be sorry getting the extra RAM even if it would have installed.

Good choice.
