Default Vista - drop in RAM usage

Hi,

Using Vista here. I have stopped most of the services i don't need from starting on startup, all i have is like ATi Tool, AVG and some microsoft apps running on startup. Ram usage on idle, after pc has settled itself, is around the 450-600MB region.

However, after testing with Prime95, i find that once i stop the test, RAM usage on idle then drops to like as low as 320-350... can ayone explain..?

I can try. I heard that vista tries to make use of the amount of free ram you have. So say if I have 2 gigs and somehow else has 1 gig. Vista will use more ram on my system than theres. And this is just to get things running faster.

If you run a program such as prime95 that uses ram. Windows now has less free ram to work with and therefore will use less.

I might be completely off with that however. So take it with a grain of salt.

But im not on a network... guess Vista just uses as much RAM available and can free it up if another program needs it.
