Default Windows boot error

OK, this is rediculous. I'm getting to the point where i just want to throw my entire PC away and go back to the stone age. I've replaced my PSU once and HD twice within the last year. Within the last month, I've reinstalled windows twice! And now, when I go to boot up Windows, first it did the "check hd for consistancy" thing, and deleted/replaced a ton of stuff, then rebooted. Now whenever I go to boot into windows, it comes up with the windows loading bar, and appears to load windows, but then goes to a black screen and just hangs there. I tried safe mode and last known good config, but no luck. I also tried reseating the RAM. Is there anything else short of reinstalling Windows to do?

You might have extremely bad luck, or a faulty SATA/IDE port..

Do you overclock at all? It might be an unstable overclock. If you do OC, did you remember to lock PCI/PCI-E buses? The IDE/SATA channels run through those buses so it can cause data corruption.

ugh, noob question - how do I lock the PCI bus on my mobo?

Also, if that was the problem, will reinstalling Windows fix it, or did I permanently screw up my HD?

OK, well, I guess I'll go ahead and reinstall windows - but first, is there any way for me to back up some data first? (All my school and stuff like that was already backed up, but I REALLY want to get my Oblivion saved game back. And my Madden07 save would be kinda nice too, but not as important.)
