And.....they're not in explorer under my username.
__________________Why could this happen? I had a lot of stuff in ,y downloads file too. I searched for a know file name and couldn't find it. I also tried system restore and that didn't seem to work. The only thing that I did was install that new hotfix that was just released on windows update.....

um, try right-clicking and go to arrange icons by and then go down to show desktop icons.

I determined that it was in fact the new MS hotfix Security Update for Windows XP (KB925902) so if anyone has this issue then perform a system restore to before this time. Weird.

This happened to me a week ago, I freaked out becasue it was a new installation however, I believed it was caused by a encoding program I installed.. cause when I uninstalled it and restart it fixed it. Can't think of the name.
Maybe it was a windows update and not the program, either way restarting fixed it for me...

No I fixed it with a simple restore before that hotfix. No way I'm reinstalling XP again! I just did a few weeks ago.

Yea buddy! It can be quite problematic at times though. Just say no to Microsoft hating, except for their overpriced hardware!
