You cant have he same license installed on any more than 1 pc at any given time.
If you transfer it to a new hardware setup you can usually call microsoft and explain your situation and there usually pretty understanding about it. However to avoid this you can always purchase the ''Retail'' version.

Has anyone actually called MS about this to get their software activated on an upgraded PC? What if they go all EULA on you and say "Sucks to you, a-hole. Go put it back on your old computer." ???

i've done it before with XP........
put my compaq's OS on one that i built and left in the compaq case.... they said "you sure its only running on one computer?" i says "yes ma'am" they says "ok. here is the activation number"
