If you don't know what you need to repair you might just try reinstalling xp over your current install or if you can boot into safe mode try using system restore to fix your problem. The only thing I've used the recover console for is repairing the MBR. BTW what is your problem?

Dont use the recovery console - Its too complicated.

What to do is goto install > Choose the partition you have your XP on and it will say there is already a install on here. Just say yes and it will repair the current install and you will keep your files & programs

I do it all the time
