I am installing Windows Vista Ultimate on a new Dell XPS system. It came with Windows Media Center Edition. It also has two 160g raptors in 0 raid config.
__________________The question I have is is when I installed it, I deleted the existing partition and made a new one. I then click the format button and then did the install. The install went fine for a while but when it restarted during the install the first time, I just got a black screen and bliniking cursor. I restarted the comp and the installation seemed to continue as normal and finished. Its running fine so far, but just wanted to make sure this was ok (or normal) and if I set it up right be creating the partition and formatting? Thanks ![]()

That's not because you deleted the partition and formatted the drive.
I think it was installing you cards' drivers...that's why it blinked. If the instalation went normally further then there should be no problem ![]() Just do your think, and you will notice it yourself.

Yes, but it didnt just blink.. it went to a black screen with flashing prompt and just stayed that way. I then had to restart the comp and then it continued with the installation.

But don't worry too much about this, except if this is coming back all the time. But I don't think so

How long should that black screen last? Mine was on for several minutes and nothing but a blinking cursor... should I have waited longer?

When installing Vista i've had it stay at that black screen for 10 minutes or so before it pops back in.
I would recommend waiting atleast 15 minutes or even up to 30 on that screen to make sure its not just vista doing stuff. While installing I do this: Delete partition, Format the partition, click "Load Drivers" load my Raid 0 Drivers. Then click next for install.

Cursor is blinking so the PC isn't frozen. Go get some ice cream or something.
