Ok, I'm wondering if this will work:
__________________1. I installed XP MCE on a computer 2. I activated it 3. Then I reformatted and reinstalled XP because of problems. 4. I had some problems with the activation, had to call microsoft to make it work. 5. I had to reformat again, except I never activated it. 6. I installed my upgrade copy of Vista, trying to circumvent the "destroy your XP liscense" thing. 7. I haven't activated vista yet though. 8. Now, I want to install XP on my main rig. Do you think the liscense will still work? Even when I activate vista on the other computer? I really need this answered, rep will be given!

depends on how sneaky you want to be , you should get away with it yeh. 90% probability you will have to ring up microsoft again to activate it, but yeh it should work

You just need to phone microsoft to reactivate you license is all. They are usually pretty good about it.

Yep, call Microsoft, if they ask for an explanation, tell them you did a reinstall to get rid of a virus.

I do it all the time. I think i've used my key at least 15 or so times. Just use the activate by phone option. Go through the steps and she'll say "im sorry i wasn't able to validate bla bla bla" then hold for a rep. He'll ask you for the first set of numbers then is this your first time activating say no. He'll ask why you say your installing new componets and it asked to reactivate. He'll say okay how many computers other than this one is it installed on. You say just this one. He'll then give you your 42digit number to put in. It's easy.

I'm just worried that Vista will eat my XP liscense.
__________________Should I even worry about this? I did the thing where you give them your XP key, then they mail you a copy of Vista.

There's absolutely no worry... You'll just have to ring up MS about the ID. They'll usually do it, they aren't too fussy about it.
