Default many recent problems with xp

something kooky is going on with my xp.

very random things:
whenever i boot up, start menu says new programs installed, even though there isn't anything new. this started after i defragged and installed bootvis.

my firefox install is crazy. i always run it with the window maximized, however, now when i open it, it starts minimized. i also cannot bookmark any pages. i click bookmark this page and nothing happens.

it seems to be getting slower and slower and taking longer to log off.

ideas?

i ran scan disk, i've defragged, i've ran avast and spybot

If the problems with XP have cleared up, you can then try reinstalling Firefox to fix its problems. Much easier than reformatting...

I experienced the same Firefox problem. The problem seemed to be the newest update, version 2.0.3. I downloaded 2.0.2 from oldversion.com, but the problem persisted. What i did was run RegCleanr, and Ccleaner. Installed 2.0.2 again, but the problem was still there.

To fix: Show hidden files and look in your local directories and such. Then go into regedit and use the search function to delete anything with the name "Mozilla" and "Firefox." I then reinstalled FF 2.0.2 and all was well.

As for your "New programs installed" problem, i would just go into the taskbar's properties menu and tell it not to report when new programs have been installed.

seems like another force of corrupt localstore.rdf file... Really should make a faq on this... Anyway you can follow this link or my directions, either way it should fix it.

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Corrupt_localstore.rdf

Basically navigate into (default directory) C:\Documents and Settings\*username*\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\8u6nlbwj.default

and delete the localstore.rdf.

Hmmm. A fresh install of 2.0.0.3 may have worked after you scrubbed the files. Works fine for me.
