Finally got my copy of Vista Ultimate 64 Bit in the mail and I just installed it on my laptop. It installed flawlessly and fast too. Definitely took less time than any XP install I've done.
Got all my drivers installed also and everything is running nice and smoothly. Activated the software and now I'm downloading several updates. A couple Ultimate extras I noticed are the DreamScene Preview and Texas Hold'Em game which should be cool to mess around with. I haven't installed much other software yet, but MS Office 2007 installed without a hitch (no surprise there), as well as Ad-Aware, Adobe Acrobat reader, and the K-Lite Codec pack. I was actually surprised the codec pack worked, I didn't expect it to. Watching movies on the laptop is crucial for me so I'm happy it worked. I'm a big fan of Vista

Yup it's a great OS. XP was feeling really dated.

Congrats! The major feature that I am interested in is the backup program. Normal Vista allows you to backup files... Business and Ultimate allow backup of revisions as well. Try it out and report how it works? A Norton Ghost replacement?

Vista still has many things to work on. The networking isn't there quite yet and the UAC is just plain annoying.
File permissions and account access also need work. Besides the software incompatibilities and the long.............................................. ................ . . . . long wait to transfer/copy/delete files Vista isn't too bad.

On my laptop my performance rating is lousy (i dont have it installed on my main comp yet). My video card rating is 2.4, but everything else is in the 5's. Aero runs perfectly though so I don't get it. The WIN+Tab flippy thing is clutch. I dig that a lot.
I'll have to get back to you on the backup options. I'm still learning the ropes with everything. And I agree the UAC is uber annoying, but its easy to disable. And as far as networking goes, I don't have it on my home network as of yet, but I havent had any trouble connecting to the internet wirelessly. i like the way Vista does it better than XP.

Actually I disable the UAC for as long as it takes me to restore my backup and setup my network options then I turn it back on. It's great to have that little reminder now and again.
As far as AERO is concerned I could handle not using it esp if your GPU is only hitting 2's.

You'll need to have UAC enabled most of the time. Files that need permissions to the TEMP folder cannot access if the UAC is disabled.
The worst part about Vista is the file transfers/copying/deleting. If that could be fixed we may be on to something.

What do you mean by that? It works fine and smooth for me.

To copy/move/transfer files it takes much longer on Vista than XP. Often double the time.
