Hey all. I'm ashamed of writing this actually, I usually bash people for posting loads of "Should I get Vista?!" threads.
__________________Well, I have a new build coming up soon (in my specs), and as you can see, it's a DX10 system. I'm very impressed with Crysis and the likes of the DX10 games, and am certainly want to use the DX10 power from the 8800GTS - that's the whole point in buying it. With the specs below, will Vista perform alright in games? I'm a really hardcore gamer I'd say, and love to play games. I play Battlefield 2 and CS: Source alot. Along with the games I'll be playing, Crysis and the new Unreal coming out, etc. So, Vista, or not Vista, for me?

Yes Vista will be fine. Performance differences aren't death compared to xp and the drivers are vastly improving.
Your new rig will run it noicely

Thanks, any other opinions? Also, should I go for 64-bit?

I've installed Vista x64 Ultimate and have had NO driver issues or program issues. I'm still testing and researching as I gradually deploy to a Vista x64 environment, but so far, no issues whatsoever.
__________________Vista > XP IMO. I've really enjoyed the stability of Vista. Not saying XP CRASHES for me as I can't remember the last time it did except for when I was OC tinkering and my proc got unstable, but XP isn't as smooth and polished. For example, pop a CD in the drive in XP, and your whole system pauses for a second or two. Vista - the CD plays. Whooo hooo! The backup features in Vista Business/Ultimate are very awesome new functionality. I've used Copernic Desktop Search for a long time, but the integrated search in Vista is just more refined. So, I'm still doing daily work in XP, but its time is running out. I'm impressed with Vista. For those that may have compatibility issues with software, here is a great update that may help: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932246

I just got vista ultimate and i dont notice any decrease in fps in any of my games (Cs 1.6,cs:source,battlefield 2,oblivion). I dont think you should get 64 bit to many driver problems and such but 32bit runs just like xp but with th support of dx10 and alot of other goodies

People say that it's a stable OS, but have they relly put it through the ringer?? I'm able to crash it, unrecoverable, within 10 min. I can't do that with XP. Go ahead and try it, just keep a copy of xp with ya just in case.

I like Vista, and believe that you will enjoy the enviroment that it provides. Your new build will expose the great features that it has. IMO get it.
And here is a link to the best version for half the price I paid. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16832116213

I stick with 32-bit Vista. Mine had an insert saying I could contact MS if I needed a 64-bit version. Not sure what they'd want to charge me to get hold of it instead. The only reason for 64-bit I can see is if you want to use 4GB of RAM. I don't think there is a massive difference in Vista/XP. That is Vista's biggest downfall. That said, if you are going to buy an OS, why buy something older when something newer is out? XP Pro is $200. Vista Home Premium is $240. Unless you want extensive backup capabilities and/or need to connect it to a domain, you don't need Ultimate.

I meant I can do a lot more stuff with XP than I can with Vista (Any version too, I've used them all).
