Default Vista DreamScene Rocks
When I downloaded DreamScene I thought it was an add-on to the Windows Movie Maker, so I started looking around my laptop and couldn’t find it anywhere. Then it dawned on me what it is and where to find it. What it allows you to do is have a looping .WMV movie play as your desktop wallpaper, instead of a “static”, unchanging picture. The option for it is where you would normally change your wallpaper image.

The content pack it came with included 5 sample movies to use as the desktop. One is a generic Vista file that’s none too exciting, but the others are pretty sweet. There’s a streaming brook, a rainy sidewalk, a lava type one, and bees pollinating a flower. I took some snapshots for you. You just have to imagine the images moving and changing I guess.

It runs just fine on my laptop, even with its subpar video card. Dreamscene is a Vista Ultimate add-on only from what I understand. Sure it’s just another “gee-wiz-bang” Vista thing, but it’s still pretty awesome. I chose the babbling brook for mine for now. It’s very serene and peaceful. There’s no sound with anything though, which is mildly disappointing, but makes sense. Or perhaps there’s an option I’m just not seeing for that. Either way, it’s still pretty cool. I’ll just have to imagine the babbling sound

There's an add-on called DeskScapes by Stardock (company that makes Windowblinds) which allows you to make your own and select from a variety of user submitted ones, many of which are very high quality.

Are you able to get DreamScene for all versions of Vista? I heard it was only for Ultimate...

Yeah I love dreamscene, I had one of the WMP9 demo clips of two F-15's dogfighting an F-16 it looks sweet as a wallpaper
