Default Decided to try Vista...

...and nothing else could have gone wrong. I installed Vista, it booted up, all is fine. I had to go and find every driver for my laptop from sony. I spent about two hours doing all of that. UAC drove me nuts. I disabled it, and every time I started Windows, it got pissed at me because I didn't have UAC enabled. I got tired of it pretty fast, and I put XP back on my laptop. Now I had to go and find all of the drivers for XP and install those, which has proven to be a headache. This is my third time to install XP in one night. I don't think I am going to have any sleep tonight. The drivers are causing problems. Windows will not recognize anything I plug into my computer. It refuses to install any type of driver for any type of hardware. I am forced to reinstall once more.

This is my last time or, well, I will have to try again. I have filming tomorrow I have to be at and I have to have my laptop with me to capture and edit the video with. I am soo tired.

This has been more of a rant than anything else. Does anyone know of a better approach of doing clean installs? I do it almost every month.

I dont get it OP, you installed Vista, then you turned off UAC and then it didn't like you and you installed XP? On installing XP you now cant get the drivers to work....?

If thats right, just plug everything in and reinstall Vista fresh on the boot. I had absolutely no problems with UAC, but I had installed everything with it on (in terms of peripherals) and then went on to software after I had turned it off.

If the problem is with WHQL (Windows Hardware Quality Labs testing or WHQL) drivers, that means that your hardware isnt Vista compatible at the moment, and you have to find out if there are plans to make Vista drivers in the (near) future.

Else you may try to install in XPsp2 compatability mode by 'rightclicking' on the setup icon for the driver, and enable the compatability.

Hope that helps a bit?!!

Isn't it funny how some people have no issues at all with Vista and others can't get a single thing to work. I think it has more to do with preconceived notions about Vista than actual problems with the OS.

I get 30 FPS at max. I believe it's capped at 40, it doesn't need more.

i had a problem like this sort of.

i had a desktop that installed xp fine, but it would not install any drivers,

i ended up reformatting that computer atleast 7 times, 4 in 1 day, until i figured out what the problem was,

i even tried a complete erase of the hdd using killdisk, but it still errored, it wasn't until i thought may be there's something wrong with the installation disk that i found out by error what the problem was.

you see i was installing xp pro. this was the original non sp xp pro. then i swiched over to my xp pro sp 2 and gave it a install. and then all the drivers installed without a glitch, no problem wat so ever.

i dunno if you have this same problem, but something to think about,

may be it only works with a certain OS.

and once i coudln't get dirver for a radeon 9250 to install. i looked on the card, it was printed in white letters on red, it said radeon 9250. yet drivers woudln't install. but when i tried 9550 ati drivers from the website, it worked fine, the card still doesn't have a problem, and windows reconizes it as a 9550. strange. but its something else to think about
