Default Rounded verticle edges? Screen becoming too wide?

I went over to an older woman's house and she had a few problems that I had never seen before.

One was that the vertical edges of her monitor were curved. I looked in the monitor settings but it didn't really much. The monitor was ancient and only had options for positioning (that I found at least.) Also all the controls were on the monitor itself, when messing with the settings nothing popped on screen like many monitors.

The second problem she had was that sometimes the screen widens when she goes to her email website (I believe that's what she told me.) Almost like the resolution changed from a standard monitor to a widescreen one.

Does anyone know how to fix either of these problems? Would reinstalling the video drivers work? I would have done that while at her house, but she has dial up and the download was very large.

When opening a dark screen to a lighter screen old CRT's do tend to do that widening affect. As for rounded edges, it's just getting really old and starting to die.

Uh you stated the problem and why in your paragraph. IT'S ANCIENT!!! CRT's are very cheap to replace. Tell her to get a new one.

I don't know if this is the same thing, but maybe it will help. sometimes my wife changes the size of icons and stuff on the desktop without changing resolution and then what happens is she has to scroll to the side to view the entire screen. I beleive it has something to do with font size if it is set to large that is what happens at least to my wifes computer. just trying to help hope this is of some assistance.

I'm sorry I forgot to mention that the monitor started working fine (well the edges anyway, we didn't get on the internet for the resolution change) after a different computer was hooked up.

then i would guess that it is the GPU, or just some random crazy error..... idk. my best guess is that maybe the GPU had an interfacing glitch with the monitor, and that the pixel placement got mixed up....imo.

gl fixing though
