Overclocker in Training
|
Hey guys, I'm in need of some help. My cousins computer (HP Pavillion a1410n on XP Media Edition) is acting weird. I've done multiple virus scans and spyware scans with nothing showing up. The system seems to be maxing out its CPU usage while idling. Apparently "System" under the processes tab is what's responsible for this.
Thanks in advanced for the help, Fallen

I would save anything that needs saved (to CD or DVD), and use the supplied HP utility to restore it back to the factory.
Edit $$ That machine also comes with 1 year of phone support from HP. It is new enough that he may still be inside that 1 year. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...roduct=1841799

Thanks a lot for the input
![]() I think I might have found the problem. It might have been an IRQ Conflict with the optical drives. He installed an after market drive and there was a conflict between the two. I disabled the after market one and everything seems to be fine so far. *cross fingers*

Its an extremely rare thing to find an "IRQ conflict" in windows XP... Could be a bad drive maybe.
