My friend from work has an older computer and he has Vista installed on it, he says it ran fine for what has it been 6 months maybe at the most and now he gets screen tears in games. My Answer to him was none of his stuff is compatible with Vista and its increased GFX workload. Here is his system to the best of my knowledge:
Intel Pentium 4 2.8 HT socket 478 Intel motherboard with AGP 1 GB of DDR RAM most likely mixed Nvidia 6600 GT 256MB card Generic 350W PSU(I think) Vista Bussiness Ultimate(I think) Him and his brother think its the video card and it might be but is this system able to run this OS right? Also all the parts are older i'm almost sure.

1 more GB of ram would be nice, but that PC should be fine. If it was fine for 6 months and only started screen tearing now, maybe the GFX is failing.

Vista ready is abit of a gimmick. That PC will run vista but would run it a little better with some more RAM.

yeah def anoter gig, that will make a great difference in vista. Also i agree wihth the fact taht if it worked fine for 6 months there is a possibility that the graphics card is dying or having problems.

Try having him go to the nVidia Control Panel and setting vertical sync to force on:
![]() I was experiencing lots of tearing with this new PC, but turning this on did the trick. If he turns it on, make sure to turn triple buffering on, too.
