Default 64 Bit Vista Questions

I was looking at a few websites and they said that 64 bit Vista allows your processor to run twice as efficiently.

Is this only for 64 bit applications or all applications?
Would this help with Supreme Commander?

Twice as efficient is slightly wrong. Its a definate improvement for sure.

The Only reall difference you will see is when using 64bit apps.

What they mean is when you have a dual core CPU and you are running a 32bit OS you are only utilising 32bits of the CPU.

When you are using a 64 bit OS - All 64 bits of the processor are being used so in theory it is 2x faster.

This is only true when using 64Bit applications though. Supeme commander is one of those

Those websites are lying or have no idea what they are talking about....

64 bit just allows much much much larger addresses to be used. Only 64-bit apps benefit though. I know that MatLab and Maple (both math programs) support 64-bit. A 2-3hr program can be reduced to like 40 mins. However, they type of calculation matters as well.

64-bit is not 2x faster than 32-bit. In theory, it is many many magnitudes faster.

Thank you all!
My main concern was that i could not run supreme commander very well with my processor (max 3 players) and I was trying to figure out a way to fix that without upgrading my processor.

I do not think SupCom is a 64-bit app. I assume you are overclocking?

Remember that to run a 64bit OS you need to have a 64bit CPU.

True about the CPU and apps but still I did see that 64 bit runs better in every regard than 32 bit. I have not had a chance to do any timed runs iin both but I can tell by the load times/desktop reponse etc that 64 bit is huge improvement over 32 bit
