Okay, so, I got my new computer and... NO OS! So, I was wondering should I get Windows: Vista - Home Premium (64-Bit) or Windows: XP - Home (32-Bit). I'm going to upgrade to Vista anyway, so, should I just do it now and save money and time? Or, should I wait for driver/bug fixes to accord?

Okay well i have vista premium 64bit and i have not had any problems except one. And it was a driver problem form ati and logitech, and i just had to use the generic drivers for my g 15 for a while. Other then that it is more responsive and quicker then xp in my opinion and i cant even notice a difference in gaming. So i would say save the money and just go vista now.

Vista is very stable, get Vista. Plus you should notice a big improvement in speed and responsiveness especially if you're going with 64-bit. Just ask all the people that have vista, they love it.

Haveing used x64 Business since before its release, I can confirm that the drivers are definately up to a reasonable quality. The only x64 applications I run are Avast antivirus, mainly down to the fact that it uses drivers, which in turn must be x64 capable, and Far Cry x64 patch. As for x64 being any faster than x86 I can't really say for certain as I switched straight from XP Home to Vista x64 Business and although I noticed a considerable improvement in perfomance I cannot say for sure whether this was down to Vista itself or the x64 environment.

One thing I am certain of is that PatchGuard, a security implementation that disallows unsigned drivers from being applied to the kernel, is exclusive to all x64 versions of Vista only. In my opinion you shouldn't even consider x86 if you're making the switch to Vista. Although there aren't many x64 capable home applications at the moment, I feel you would still be better of with 64-bit. At the end of the day, you will at least have the flexibilty to run both 32-bit and 64-bit applications under x64 whilst with x86 you will be limited to 32-bit only. Couple those two points with the fact that you can use more than 4GB of RAM (up to 16GB for Premium and up to 128GB for Business and Ultimate) and the choice becomes a bit of a no-brainer.

Okay, this is what I was thinking, because, most people that bash Vista are people who don't even own a copy. My brother had the Vista Beta and I thought the theme and features were cool (it reminded me of OSX for some reason...).

Question:

Should I get this copy of Vista? (Mircosoft Windows Vista 64-Bit Home Premium DVD - OEM)

Premium is fine. I only chose Business as it has a built in terminal services client.

Which version is right for me? I want a lot of features, good security, and I play tons of games. Price is not that big of deal since they are all $120-220. I will also store pictures and make slideshows.

I can't see you making use of a remote access client so you'd be better off with the built in DVD codec and Media Centre software of Premium. Ultimate is basically all the features of Premium and Business but with extra useless features on top, so should be avoided at all costs in my opinion.

i use ultimate. and man is it fast. wow. all my movies on it is in hd. media center is nice if u have a tvtuner

Windows Vista HP 64BIT

Windows Vista is faster than XP by leaps and bounds IMO and is alot more secure. Especially the 64bit counterparts.

There are so man things I could list. However to keep it short and sweet your best bet is Vista 64.
