Hello again all. Thanks MrBungle for the tips. In one of your previous posts you were going over BIOS settings so I decided to take a look again at mine and I had screwed them up. Solved the problem.
__________________However, I now have the problem of the system sometimes booting and sometimes not. It does, however, always go to a black screen with a blinking cursor either way, it just gets stuck there sometimes and i have to restart. It does this at the point when Windows is about to load. I have just installed Vista Home Premium 32-bit, but the problem came even before this when it wouldn't even read from the DVD sometimes and would get stuck on that screen. This computer is freshly built, all components new. I am running off an ASUS Crosshair mobo (nForce 590 SLI chipset). Btw, on startup the chances of it hanging on the black screen are about 60%, to 40% everything happening normally. Something must be wrong here.

Have you tried reinstalling? A different OS? See if it works with Linux maybe? Different DVD drive?

Sounds like its not always booting windows, it might be a windows problem or it might be your hard drive.

hmm.. I don't think it's a Windows problem. I have two different versions (Vista Home Premium 32-bit and XP Pro 64-bit) and both do it. Even the DVD that came with my mobo (acts as a boot disk) does it. I think I'm gonna just wipe the CMOS, reformat the HDD's and do it again. I'm fairly worried the problem will persist though, as it started happening very early in setting up the comp. right after I was done with the BIOS.

An interesting aside to this question as well. When it starts up it's acting like it's trying to read from my MMC reader. Maybe I don't have this connected correctly or something. I'll try disconnecting it and seeing what that does. The complete format/reinstall didn't work.

And changes to my BIOS take a long time to do anything before it restarts. If I F10 to save & exit and hit "yes" it will lock up for a couple minutes before restarting. It didn't do this when I first turned it on. I'm using Phoenix BIOS, I'm not sure which version though.

You know, I know it's stupid, but I haven't thought to check it. It just correctly booted for the first time in 12 tries just now so I'm going to install some more drivers before I restart and have to go through that again. Give me a couple minutes. (I already have the RAID controller and everything installed).

Ok, I have a code when it fails to boot. On the mobo LCD it says "UPDT DMI" I'm guessing that says "Update DMI". But I don't know what DMI is

Overclock it or Die!

That blinking cursor makes me think it's the video driver. Mine does that when I install a video driver.
