Hey, recently, my computer has had major issues. I cannot open any folder on my desktop. If I try, the desktop resets itself (goes blank and goes back to what it was before i clicked on the folder). The only way I can get to anything on my computer, I have to go to explorer and type in the address to the files.

Sometimes, if I leave my computer on, the desktop completely disappears... all except the background picture. Strangely though, everything is still running (according to task manager)

Could this be a windows problem?

I figure it is most likely a virus problem but I just want to know if anyone knows what is going on... (ive scanned my comp 6 times and it cant find anymore viruses)

I am sick of wiping my computer and re-installing everything. My brother (who is a really smart comp wiz) suggests I manually restore the system registry. I have faith that that could work. I just wanted to run this through overclock and see if anyone knows any other solutions.

If anyone can gime some help.. that would be great.. thanx!

Try restore, repair/recovery, fixmbr, or reinstall.

Use NOD32, scan in safemode.

If you don't log onto XP with the Administrator account, then try this....

Boot into safe mode and log in as the Administrator account.
Browse to the C:\Documents and Settings folder
Rename the folder that is called the same name as the account to log into XP with
Reboot into Normal and log in
