Solution:
I was browsing through my old threads, and saw I has figured out the answer. Here it is. When you see the screen shown above, press CTRL + Shift + F3 and hard reset. Then, you will be logged on as Administrator, and do whatever you want, change the background, the resolution, install programs and drivers, etc. When you are done, open with WinRAR or something similar the archive D:\SUPPORT\TOOLS\DEPLOY.CAB. Make sure to open it, don't extract it, because opening it will put it in a temp folder with commands to delete it later. Then run the Sysprep.exe tool, and check Don't regen SIDs, and Don't reset grace period. Done. I always check if it really worked by powering it up and then cutting the power if it did. Original post: I often build machines with XP installed on them, and I'd like to skip the OOBE screen so I can install drivers and programs and activate Windows as admin, but set the OOBE to boot once again as soon as my clients turn on their computers the first time, so they can set their user names and Internet connections, etc. Unattended install isn't a good idea for me; I want to make sure everything is working perfectly. An example of the OOBE screen (pulled from here): ![]()

Well I dont know about skipping the oobe screen, but you might want to look into slipstreraming your installs. I dont know if it will be too much help for you though since you have to install on a myriad of computers, but you can at least slipstream a majority of drivers and updates.

I know nlite has the ability to disable the OOBE the first time around. About getting it back later, I dunno, but this might be a good starting point.

If you do a lot of these you should get the Windows OPK; it helps you create an unattend file to automate the installation and it also has tools to let you make your own recovery partitions.

Well, I install drivers on a build-by-build basis, because each computer is truly custom built. I'm considering making a few models as "prebuilt," and imaging the HDD like real OEMs. But for now, the OPK doesn't help much.

Well, you can take the image for the recovery partition right after you do the driver installs. Then you set up the recovery partition, and reinstall Vista right from the new recovery partition. Takes a bit longer though.
