Should I completely wipe my hard drive using http://dban.sourceforge.net/
or does it even make a difference?

It's not a bad idea, but not entirely necessary.
I simply formatted my drive using the windows utility before jumping from XP to Vista 64. DBAN is more for deleting data (and keeping it unrecoverable).
