Default Unusual BSOD...

Hi,

I've been having a problem on my laptop for quite some time now...

ever since about 2/3 months ago.

Whenever I turn my laptop on and am about to do something, after a certain amount of time... I get a BSOD that doesn't say anything.

All that happens is...

a Blue background, with garbled up text( i can't even read a letter)..and a BUNCH of white blocks that seem to be moving out of place continuously...sort of jerking around...(....)...

I don't know if it is from the AIM Beta I installed...but this has been happening for quite some time...but more recently since I've installed beta aim...

I know it's a BSOD because after I booted windows, I got a message saying that windows crashed and in the more info tab, it displayed BSOD as the cause.

I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate, and would REALLY appreciate any input on this matter...

because I am EXTREMELY annoyed at the fact that this happens every 20 minutes, even sometimes instantly on boot...

thanks, and please help.

In order:

1. Virus / Spyware Scan
2. Do a disk check (check disk)
3. Defrag your HDD
4. If it still happens then try and do a repair install of windows....

I just recently reinstalled windows.

I can't defrag because it would take too long, and the computer would crash...

and i'm not sure how to check disk...

thanks for replies.

how could it be my ram?...

it does keep giving errors on a boot immediately after a crash...

it gives hard disk errors..could it be the hard drive?...

i ran chkdsk on vista...
it worked..but while it was going..

it said it gave errors and then said that it couldn't continue in read-only mode...

does this mean i shoudl try running it in safe mode?...

edit:i ran it in safe-mode...
but it still said that it couldn't continue in read-only mode
..

what now?

Ram affects every aspect of your comp and some twitchy ram can give you some weird errors.

If you still want to test your hard drive (It's a seagate right?), try SeaTools.
