I cannot change the background in Vista home premium. I scanned for viruses, adware, spyware, and registry repair and fixed everything. The background will only stay a solid color. I can set a picture from the internet as the background, but after I log off or restart it goes back to solid black. Please help.

Were you able to before? I know that on a fresh install you have to run the performance rating test to unlock some of the features of Aero so this may be the case. I think if you right click on my computer and go to advanced performacne setting run the test. (I am at work on an XP machine and don't remember where to get there but sure somebody else who know can correct me). TO run the tool go to run then type in winsat.exe and run it from there. This should unlock some of the Aero featues.

This happened to me when I bought my Lenovo notebook at 2009/10.
I've used for 4-5 days, and suddenly couldn't change background image, network settings, control panels...etc. At first, I was wondering if it was virus or software problem, then I did a reinstall. The same symptom happened in another 4-5 days. The worst thing was I couldn't even use the Windows update. I have to use a third party update tool to update from SP1 to SP2, then the problem solved.
