I just learned that you can only have 4 "primary" partitions. I had made 4 small primary partitions and left the rest unallocated. I just resized the 4th primary partition to cover the rest of the disc. Then I went back and made "logical" partitions. The easiest partition editor I've found is the Gparted in Ubuntu. I was unable to use the gparted live CD. It didn't like my 9600 and wouldn't load the UI. Though all is good now. BTW, Lins I tried to reply to your PM. but it appears you are not excepting PMs.

Hi I have been reading how to guides from this site for a while now and I really like this site. I found your fuide on Dual booting Vista and XP when Vista is pre loaded first. I followed the instructions and shrunk the volume which worked only after i used one of your recomended defrag utilities. I then created a 20GB partition which I labeled XP and then I labeled my vista partition Vista. I rebooted off the XP disk and began loading XP and then I got to the part where the pc needs to reboot and get a error loading operating system. I again boot off the XP disk and this time I reformat the 20gig XP partition and again attempt to load xp on it only to get the same error. After panic set in a booted off the Vista CD and ran startup repair and it did not work. I then booted off VIsta cd again and went to load VIsta into the 20gig partition I made for XP and when rebooting I got the same prob. Now I would love to be able to Load XP into that 20gig partition and fix the dual boot but at this point if i cant I just want to fix my computer to at least boot off my origional Vista partition that is there. How do I fix this? Is there a live CD i can download that can repair the boot up?

Just use your Vista ans XP disc.
To fix XP boot loader: 1. load XP disc 2. Press "R" at first selection screen 3. Select the drive you have XP installed on 4. type "fixmbr" press enter and answer yes 5. Type "fixboot" press enter and answer yes 6. Type "exit" to reboot XP boot loader should be fixed To fix vista bootloader 1. Load Vista disc 2. Enter the consule screen 3. Type "bootrec /fixmbr" press enter 4. Type "bootrec /fixboot" press enter 5. Reboot Vista boot loader should be fixed. Do the XP fix first then do the Vista fix. Also, as a last resort you could make a 5GB partition and load a Linux distro and the install of GRUB should find both boots for XP and Vista. Good luck!!
