Well after my horrible experiences with Vista Ultimate 64 I was wondering how stable XP64 is? Would it be worth upgrading just so I use all my 4GB of ram? One of my main problems with Vista64 was a total lack of instability with 4x1GB sticks. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

XP 64-Bit is worse than Vista 64-bit... Not a lot of driver support, etc.
I think it's rather the RAM itself than Vista... 4x1GB isn't the best solution. A 2x2 GB kit is much better.

XP64 is based on Windows 2003 so its pretty stable. In the other hand I don't advice you to switch to 64 coz ATM there are so little native 64 apps.
Windows XP 32Bit ATM FTW ![]()

Would it be the board that I'm using? I've seen quite a few people with P35 boards that didn't seem to have the stability issues.

I do believe that those with the nVidia chipset have more trouble with four sticks of RAM. Intel seems to be more stable indeed.
Now, I don't know why yiou went for 4x1GB over 2x2GB. You basically see almost no one with 4x512MB, simply because running four sticks isn't the best of ideas. Close to everyone running 2GB does so with 2x1GB, simlpy because it's known to be more stable and overclock friendly. And, obviously, the same applies to 2x2GB v. 4x1GB. I'd consider selling the 4 1GB sticks and get a 2x2GB kit. With a little luck, you won't loose much money.

I'm running Vista Ultimate x64 on an EVGA 680i-A1 and I'm quite happy. I'm going to upgrade to 4g soon, but it's running well enough that I formatted over my XP Pro drive several days ago.

XP x64 is a rock solid platform, I tend to leave my PC running boinc or fah 24/7 and only ever reboot when a driver update requires it(very rarely get blue screens). As for the supposed lack of drivers: thats pretty much a thing of the past (many vista 64 drivers will work) and going by your spec you should have no driver issues(scanners & webcams are still dodgy). Only thing I can fault x64 on is that some older games won't install due to copy protection incompatability.

I was using XP X64, until i noticed the lack of driver support for some new hardware. When i installed the nvidia 7025 chipset drivers, windows refused to load. I had to repair windows to uninstall the drivers. To avoid the hassle I went to Vista x64, haven't had any major issues.
