Default [Vista] Winrar + Other Programs, Low CPU Usage

Compared to windows xp whenever I unrar a file it takes a looong time, when I check my performance tab in the task manager, hardly any cpu power is being used, whats going on? any ideas? I think this happens a bit with some other programs too.

No but its better to use 64bit native application.

Try 7-Zip x64 & give me your feedback.

I'm having real trouble now doing anything with my hard disk, installing a demo for example is taking me about 10x as long as normal even with my CPU activity at around 50%.

Could my hard drive have gone wrong? Why would it be working so slowly? I did an advanced chkdsk on it and it took over an hour to go through the 5 steps, is this normal? Things like JUST getting UAC confirmation to pop up to install the demo took about 5 minutes of loading.

Would reinstalling Vista help, or trying 32bit?

Baldrick, i'm having the exact same problem as you. In fact, i'm having many problems.

First, winrar is EXTREMELY slow at extracting, like you said. Second, Resident Evil 4 took about an hour to install. Third, it's not even booting up anymore since i changed my VGA BIOS so i could unlock my 6800XT.

I always thought it was because my PC is broken.

I'm using ultimate 64, btw.
