Hey there, I installed a new version of windows. Vista Ultimate 32 bit. anyway, after installation and after one windows update, everytime my computer posts it shows me two different options too boot off of. Both are windows Vista. I know for sure i deleted all partitions on my hard drive before installation. When i select windows vista (the first one) it gives me an error. and the second options (vista 2) works just fine.

What was on the computer before ? Vista ?

It appears the Vista Boot Manager is finding another Vista install, even if it's too messed up to use. Download & install "Vista Boot Pro". It will allow you to set the default to the Vista you want, and ignore the other one. You can manually delete the other Vista, but you need to be careful. If this is brand-new, it might be faster to just format & reinstall all over again.

say i did want to delete this other Vista that is not wanted. Its not a clean clean installation. The reformat was completely clean but then i moved saved files to the hard drive that id rather not transfer again.

you'll need something like "unlocker", which is a freeware utility that deletes protected files on reboot.

This is the only thing I could find on editing the Vista boot.ini. Its not as easy as XP was, but it should help you.

It's pretty easy to fix right click "my computer" Go to advanced options
then to "start up and recovery" Then it'll have the options which one to automatically start up, and set the display timer to zero
