I have a LG GSA-H22L DVD drive and it won't show up in Windows. I installed Vista using it and setup a RAID 0 array. When I boot my computer and it shows my RAID array it also says "ODD1: HL_DVD_GSA_H22L" or something like that. ODD is optical disk drive. From what I can gather, this means it is recognized by my IDE control. But when I go to windows and either put in a cd or try to access it though my computer it is not there. I have tried everything I know and still no luck.

Right click "My Computer" (or "Computer", as it's called now in Vista) > "Manage" > "Storage" > "Disk Management" and see if it is shown there.
__________________Also, just above it, check Device Manager. Click "View" > "show hidden devices" and report any yellow or red-flagged devices. Is it possible when you configured your RAID, you somehow included the optical drive in a RAID configuration that doesn't exist ?

Nope it isn't in Device Manager or Disk Management.
__________________I highly doubt it is included in the raid array. Gigabyte seems to use the same JMicron SATA controller as my Abit AB9 board and when I had raid setup on that it looked the same at bootup.

Is the optical drive shown in BIOS ?
__________________If it is, physically disconnect the RAIDed drives and boot one of them as a normal drive. See if optical drive appears. This problem may be unrelated to the RAID.

I use a JMicron SATA RAID card that has an IDE slot as well on it and if i try and use the IDE slot for one of my optical drives when using the card for RAID 0 it is not recognized by Windows as the JMicron controller includes it in the RAID array for some reason. If i hit Crtl+J there it is, Optiarc/NEC Super RAID. If i use the card as a plain old SATA controller Windows sees the optical drive as it is no longer mistaken for a RAID device. So this could very well be the case with your onboard JMicron controller as well.

I'm not saying that. All i am doing is relating to you that i have a JMicron RAID contoller card that behaves in a similar fashion. If RAID is enabled any drive hooked to it is recognized as such.

Do you use the built in raid on the mobo. Cuase with mine there was a way to set the sata ports to act as raid or normal ide and when i set them to raid my disk drives didnt work. But when i switched it back they worked. It wasnt the first option to set raid casue one of them has to be enabled.

My onboard controller is set to "IDE/RAID" in bios. My manual says this...
__________________"Turn on your computer and press <Delete> to enter BIOS Setup during the POST. In BIOS Setup, go to Integrated Peripherals, ensure that Onboard SATA/IDE Device is enabled. Then set Onboard SATA/IDE Ctrl Mode to RAID/IDE (Figure 1). If you do not want to create RAID, set this item to IDE or AHCI, depending on your need."
