Default Welcome Center Issue

Every time I start windows the welcome center pops up and I check the box that says do not show again, but it still does. This is the same for the sidebar. Now I have already looked into this a lot now and I've tried to delete the registry files and the oobefldr.dll (which vista wont even let me do) and still nothing. Has anybody had this problem and know a solution?

Well, you could go to the Control Panel and in there you should have a Welcome Center menu. Then you can choose to "run at startup" or not.
Or, use this more intensive way of fixing the problem:
1. Start Regedit.

2. Navigate through HKEY_CURRENT_USER, Software, Microsoft, Windows, CurrentVersion, Run.

3. Right click on the WindowsWelcomeCenter key and select Delete.

I've already done all of that and it still comes back. I can delete the core file for it either, it says that you dont have permission even when im on the admin account.

wow thats wierd. Just a shot in the dark (and maybe n00b advice coming from me), but is there something in Start->Run->Msconfig making it reset itself on startup by chance?

Yeah Vista "mother hens" preventing deletion sometimes, even in god mode. i feel your frustration..

Nope nothing about welcome center in msconfig. Yeah I sure hope more updates come soon and fix most of the problems.

MSDN has another solution might be worth a try (but what do i know)
I am not in Vista Admin mode, so i couldn't test it right now..

Procedure for Preventing the Welcome Center from Displaying at Startup

1.open Group Policy Management Console by running in Start->Run-> gpmc.msc

2. Expand User Configuration, expand Administrative Templates, expand Windows Components, and then click Windows Explorer.

3.In the details pane, double-click "Do not display the Welcome Center at user logon, and then click Enabled."

Or activate the hidden admin account; turn of UAC to start with, anyway...
