Here's the deal, with my sig rig I need a natively NUMA aware OS, which limits me to XP64, Vista64, or Linux64. XP64 is out because of shatty driver support, and Linux64 is out because Linux simply won't serve my personal needs enough, and I just don't like the Linux UI, and the "extra" required knowledge to use the OS. So Vista it is. Now the question is which 64-bit version...? I'm deciding between Home Premium and Ultimate, and right now I don't know exactly why I would need Ultimate over Home Premium, so convince me I need Ultimate if you honestly believe I do. The system is my sig rig below, it will be heavily OC'd, and its main uses will be video editing and gaming (but realize I have another rig specifically for gaming and web surfing, so the sig rig is purpose built for video editing first). Other than that its also my primary music "supplier", being hooked up to my system amp and speakers, etc. So which OS best fits my needs?

Well, I have it but I wouldn't get it unless, say... you could get it for the same price as Home Premium, if you catch my drift...

What honest benefits do you see in its use versus Home Premium, based on the listed differences?

The reason I bought home premium and had to upgrade later using anytime upgrade is because of "features" they fail to tell you about that are missing from home premium. In my case, it was the ability to use Disk management to manage spanned and mirrored dynamic disks. cant do that in Home Premium without hex hacking and subsequently causing windows to think your copy of vista is "not genuine".
Also, i like to be able to edit my group policies to lock down certain things, you cant do that in home premium either. i found it to be annoying finding system admin tools i used to use all the time "locked" from use. my advice would be to try and get home premium on the cheap using a student discount if you can, and if you absolutely must upgrade to ultimate you have that option available to you. Or buy OEM ultimate and you will save money rather than having to upgrade, but it will be a larger initial investment.

If you have the latest version of PowerDVD, and your own Media Centre software, then get get Business Edition. If you don't have the lastest PowerDVD, get Home Premium. Business Edition has a somewhat useful Remote Terminal Services Client built in, whereas Home Premium does not. Ultimate is simply the features of Business and Premium, with a whole bunch of other tools that you'll never use thrown in for good measure.
