I have this expression before , "Blue screen of DEATH" but what does it mean.
__________________As it is now , I was working on my computer (Windows xp sp2) and doing dual tasting on my Core 2 duo 6320 with 1 GB single slot . I have 2 HDD both seagates one older 300g and one newer 400g. I have running a video and working on Excel, when suddenly I hear a "Clonk" sound from the computer, along with a short blue screen flash with white letters , all my data wasn;t saved. Is it time to re-install my windows , or is my HDD broken ? After I restart everything is fine and the computer seems to work again, never knowing when it might happen again , Please advise thank you

A clonk sound from the computer is never good, id start saving backups of your most important data from that drive (If you don't already). It probably isn't a problem with the OS, but you could always try cleaning it up a bit (ie defrag, scandisk) to see what the deal is. I would also recommend testing your memory with memtest 86, you might be having a memory error that is causing the computer to crash. I had a similar problem a couple weeks ago and reinstalled the OS, rebuilt my raid, tried different ports, all because the hdd made a sound when the computer blue screened. Also, make sure the power lead to the hdd is plugged in good, it could be a loose connection. Good luck!

well it happens when somethng goes wrong and system shut downs to prevent damage. the clonk sound happens when your hard drive goes to sleep and it probably caused it. it dosen't mean that the hard drive is dead maybe an error happened during that sleep time or something
