Default Vista 64

Hey guys,
I just got 4 gigs to add to my 2 gigs of RAM. I figured after a year, Vista x64 should be better equipped for me to upgrade. Any news on this? Is the water fine? I'm running x32 without any real problems.

The only thing you have to watch out for is to make sure you follow the 4GB 64 bit Vista BSOD fix. Other than that all of your hardware will be fully supported by 64 bit Vista, unless you have an old wireless LAN card. Sound quality isn't as good as it could be in Vista compared to XP because Vista forces the sound drivers to output the sound in some kind of special way (can't remember what). I'd say go for it if you not too concerned about minimal sound quality issues.

64 is doing pretty well. for the most part there are good drivers and such, but there are a few things like coretemp and ati tool that might not work. I would give it a shot though.

Another vote for x64 it works fine except Ati tool and Coretemp dont work and hard to find wireless drivers other than that all my games Steam COD4 Crysis work very well. With my X-fi I havent noticed sound quality loss.

The only problem I have run into is using 4GB of ram with my OS. For some reason when I have 4GB of ram installed, my wireless card stops working. I've been told this is a known issue and will be fixed with SP1, but it is kind of frustrating. It is a memory remapping issue apparently.

As for the 4GB patch, just load your OS with 2GB, then DL and install the patch. Then install the other 2GB.

I love Vista x64. I've been running it for around 2 months, and I never even booted back in to XP. I already formatted the XP HDD for storage.
I have played the following games in x64:
BF2/2142
Bioshock
Crysis
UT3
COD4
Stalker
All steam games
Frontlines Fuels of War beta
I use my PC as an HTPC, so I use the Combined Community Codec pack, and it works fine. My X-Fi works great too. They fixed the static bug with 4Gb of RAM.

This is only with older games that use the Hardware Abstraction Layer. Vista uses a much better method, and IMO it actually sounds better to me. My movies and music sound better in Vista than XP. None of my games require Alchemy (the HAL emulator) so I haven't had to use it....but chances are if a game is old enough to use the HAL then they don't sound so hot in the first place

I have had Vista Ultimate x64 for about three months now. All i can say is that it is one of the best OS available, yes you MAY encounter some problems such as drivers and such, but it has gone a LONG way. If you have any problem just google, I have found many solutions (like my iTunes).

Mostly all important applications run in 64, as for CoreTemp, let me correct some members here. You CAN use Coretemp in 64, heres the link: http://www.overclock.net/operating-s...emp-tweak.html

Just follow the instructions by IceMan and you would be 100% fine. So Spyderwalk, i suggest you upgrade soon, you will notice a difference and wonder why you haven't done this before.

Meh, I use Everest with Vista x64. It's so much better, and it monitors every diode in my whole system! Even my GPU VRM, HDDs, you name it.
