I will probably be updating the guide soon with a few tricks and stuff I've been having to learn for a new Spoof Anti-Virus thats been going around.

There are many strings of it a few of them are :

AVG 2009
Anti-Virus 2009
Anti-Virus 360
Microsoft Anti-Spyware 2009.

A lot of these viruses aren't picked up by AVG or other anti-virus software. I've been testing on virtual machines to see how they change user settings and the administrative controls. These things are really malicious and in some instances require a format & reload. They ask you to pay $59.95 to be able to "clean" the viruses it says you have on your computer. It is in fact a scam and I've dug and did some research and it originates in Russia so DO NOT buy it from them because they are stealing your information.

Peace guys

Yea, I've gotten Anti-Virus 2008/2009 a couple times from my wife using Myspace. :/ PC Tool's Spyware Doctor has been working great for cleaning it up. Just spyware doctor cause ~20% system performance loose. Only run it when I need to clean. Still run AVG, anti-malware and a few other things from this thread.

Note, one of the best tips is to turn system restore off and defrag before restarting your comp after running your list of scans. Some of these apps like to use restore to bring themselfs back apon restart.

You may think it gets rid of them all but there are many traces of all of them. It adds TONS of startup garbage. Usually it changes the time to military to and its easily fixable, the easiest way is usually changing your region to english(zimbabwe) then change it back to English(America) and that fixes the issue with time.

If you have gotten them recently I'd run SDFIX on your PC and superantispyware. You may have lost some administrative privileges and not know it.

I've noticed when I use msconfig now it tells me I'm not an admin, but it makes the changes anyways. I do run superantispyware from time to time.

I'll give SDFIX a try.

My mother-in-law sent me an infected computer with the Security 2009 virus. I ran PC Tools, Superantispyware. Malwarebits, AVG and SDfix. System appears to be clean now, but I can't get the blasted thing to connect to the internet now. I tried turning off the Windows firewall, but no luck.

Any help?

I tried that plus many other things. XP repairing didn't work. Finally resorted to reformatting.

I'm using this guide on my work desktop right now and AVG has already found more than 100 virus's and trojan horses. But my question is that some of the files infected and moved to the virus vault are windows system files, like system32 folder files how is this going to effect the computer afterwards? I can't delete these files because i'm pretty sure the system needs them to operate.

Also i want to use this guide on my VISTA labtop computer at home, is there such a guide that will work with vista or should i just make sure all of the above programs are compliant with vista?

Thanks in advance.

Most of the files in question are probably trojan horses which are fake windows files. Trojans tend to just make copies of themselves (they don't infect files) inside the windows folder all over the place, to make the user more reluctant to delete them. Spy Bot works in vista now, as well as malwarebytes, which is also a great program for removing that stuff.
